Silicon Barium Alloy, also known as SiBa alloy, is an alloy primarily composed of silicon and barium, with trace amounts of other elements. It is commonly used as a deoxidizer and desulfurizer in the steelmaking process, as well as a modifier of non-metallic inclusions. The addition of SiBa to steel can enhance its machinability, ductility, and overall quality. This alloy proves particularly effective in reducing the sulfur content of steel, which in turn improves its resistance to corrosion and hydrogen embrittlement. SiBa alloy is also employed in the production of castings, particularly for the automotive industry, due to its ability to improve castability and reduce porosity. Additionally, SiBa alloy can be utilized as a grain refiner in aluminum casting alloys to improve their mechanical properties and castability.
